Description
The Chess board was probably made in Serrento, Italy in the last quarter of the 19th century. Made principally of a hardwood, the board is inlaid in geometric patterns with mother of pearl, walnut, bone and other fruitwoods. It folds in half, one side being the chess set, the other inlaid with baize as a writing panel.The Chess set is in the Staunton style in boxwood. It has been well used and there are a few chips plus some of the black pieces are fading on the edges. It comes in a wooden Harrods box.
